Dean & Chadlington Summer Music Festival 2009
June 27, 2009
Welcome to the website for the Dean & Chadlington Summer Music Festival. The villages of Dean & Chadlington lie nestled in rolling hills to the north of the Evenlode Valley not far from Chipping Norton in the Cotswolds. The festival brings first class music into venues of unique atmosphere including beautiful churches and stately homes in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK. Please peruse the details here on our website of our past two festivals to get a feel for what we have to offer.
This year, in the spirit of diversity, the festival is taking a completely different form. We are having one gala event in the extraordinarily beautiful surroundings of Ditchley Park, a magnificent stately home outside Charlbury and only a few miles from the home of the festival in Dean & Chadlington.
A plethora of international artists will present opera, tango, song, readings, virtuoso instrumental performances and world class gypsy jazz in the exquisite surroundings of Ditchley Park.
The evening will feature ‘Glyndebourne-style’ picnics after the first portion of the concert so audience members will be strongly encouraged to bring along a picnic. Arrangements have been made for picnics to be taken in the gardens or if the weather is bad inside Ditchley House itself. Arrival is from 5pm for the setting up of picnics and to receive a complimentary drink on the terrace. The picnic interval will be accompanied by music from the Django Reinhardt-style Bill Lovelady Gypsy Jazz Quartet.
The concert will begin in the Great Hall at 6pm with the picnic interval at approximately 7pm and a second shorter interval for complimentary sweet canapés before the concert finale. A free talk about the house and gardens is also available for up to 60 people at 4.30pm.
